Not Everything can grow in your greenhouse...
Typically, when purchasing land, one should get the soil tested immediately. Regardless of the desired out come from the land. We didn't go into this blind, knowing that growing in a greenhouse was the best option for our climate, we let this one slide. Although we did use some resources to get an idea of what to expect. One good resource is the Web soil Survey.
The Web soil survey is a simple and accurate way to collect data on your soil before you event step foot on the property. This site provides a comprehensive data base of soil data, that currently holds around 95% of the nation's counties. There are various tools including some that can give you a ruff idea of the Cation Exchange Capacity. Which paired with PH, Cal, Mag, Phos, can really give you a clear insight on how suitable your land is going to be for your desired outcome.
The benchmark of soil tests seem to be the Mehlich3 method.
